Bio

Dr Jean Saint-Cyr was born in Montréal and attended McGill University, graduating with a BA in Psychology. He obtained an MA in Psychology at the University of Rochester and then a Ph.D. jointly in Psychology (Physiological and Clinical) and in Neurobiology, at the Centre for Brain Research. He completed post-doctoral studies in Cell Biology (University of Texas at Dallas, Southwestern Medical School) and in Neuroanatomy (Centre de recherches en sciences neurologiques) at the Université de Montréal. Dr Saint-Cyr was a Visiting Scientist at the National Institutes of Health, both in the Laboratory of Neuropsychology and in the Clinical Brain Disorders Branch. He was a Fellow in Neuroradiology in the Department of Medical Imaging, Toronto Western Hospital, University Health Network.

Dr Saint-Cyr is a fully-bilingual, duly qualified Psychologist, licensed by the College of Psychologists of Ontario (1983). He is specialized in Neuropsychology, Psychotherapy and Medical-Legal practice. Dr. Saint-Cyr trained in Clinical Psychology at McGill's Department of Psychiatry (Allan Memorial Institute), at the University of Rochester, at the Clarke Institute of Psychiatry (now CAMH) and at the Toronto Western Hospital. From 1983 to 2006, he was a Staff Neuropsychologist (Department Head 1988 to 1990) in the Department of Psychology, at the Toronto Western Hospital. He was also a Clinician-Scientist in the TWH Movement Disorders Clinic (1999-2003).

Dr Saint-Cyr founded the Centre médico-social communautaire de Toronto and was a member of the Administrative Council and where he was also the Consultant Psychologist (1988-1990). He sat as a Council member of l'Association canadienne-française de l'Ontario for 15 years (1980-1995), appointed to the education and medical dossiers. He has consulted at the Hospital for Sick Children and for the Conseil scolaire francophone du sud de l'Ontario. He has extensive experience in counselling school teachers, persons with movement disorders, and HIV/AIDS patients.

Dr Saint-Cyr is a Professor Emeritus in the University of Toronto, Department of Surgery (Division of Neurosurgery), of the Faculty of Medicine. In addition, he is an Affiliated Scientist at both the Toronto Western Hospital Research Institute and at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, University Health Network. He is also a Consultant Neuropsychologist in the Markham Movement Disorders Clinic.

Dr Saint-Cyr has taught Clinical Neuroscience (neuroanatomy and neurophysiology), neuropsychology and clinical psychology to medical students, graduate students and to residents and fellows in Neurology, Neurosurgery, Psychiatry and Ophthalmology for over 30 years at several universities in Canada and the United States. Dr Saint-Cyr has published over 100 scientific papers, book chapters and reviews in international journals. He has lectured throughout North America, Europe and in the Middle East at international conferences and symposia. He is a Fellow of the American and Canadian Psychological Associations and belongs to the International Neuropsychological Society and to the Movement Disorders Society. He is also a member of the Medico-Legal Society of Toronto and of the Canadian Academy of Psychologists in Disability Assessment.

Currently, he is in private practice, offering services in Clinical Psychology, Neuropsychology and in Medical-Legal Psychology
